A split-level riverside stone chapel, with river views, created by the conversion of a large Methodist Chapel and Schoolroom, built in 1846 in the conservation area of the historic mill village of Milford, in the wooded valley of the River Derwent. The local area is of great interest to enthusiasts of our industrial heritage is lots of walking close at hand.

This fine stone building has been skilfully converted into a large and most characterful holiday home, offering good quality accommodation, yet retaining much of the Chapel’s original character and charm, with exposed beams, some original pews, marble plaques, chapel doors, and with the old pulpit featured in the balconied lower lounge! The Chapel has its own little raised lawned garden with ramp access, and picnic tables and barbecue. In addition, there is a further two acres of steep woodland for the use of nimble guests, full of bluebells in Spring, reached by a very steep path from the garden.

The Ebenezer Chapel is one of those rare character properties that can accommodate the really large family party (up to 22 guests!) with ease: there’s an 38ft beamed & galleried lounge, a Finnish sauna-suite, fully-equipped kitchen, a wealth of bathrooms and some en-suite facilities, and an upper extra lounge, overlooking the River Derwent.

Sports available in the area include tennis, fishing and bowls, (just across the river via Milford’s Riverside Craft and Garden Centre), three good riding and trekking stables within a mile or so, several local golf courses, fishing and canoeing in the Derwent, and Belper’s fully equipped family Sports Centre just two miles away. The area is noted for its Real Ale and there are four great pubs within half a mile, including The King William Pub, just next door. There are shops and restaurants close by, baby-sitting service by arrangement, and easy street parking at the Chapel gate and just down the lane. There are two seven-day supermarkets in Belper  1 1/2 miles up the A6.

It’s in an area rich in heritage, with mills, canals, museums and the Derwent Valley Visitor Centre all nearby, and attractions such as the Crich Tramway Village Museum, Matlock Bath’s Cable Cars & Gulliver’s Kingdom, Alton Towers and the scenic limestone dales of the Peak Park & Carsington Water all an easy drive. Fine views from The Chapel over the Derwent to the hills beyond with canoeing, fishing, tennis & bowls, and four real-ale pubs all in the village, 2 sports centres within 4 miles, and climbing, caving, gliding & watersports all under 20 miles

  • Large galleried lower-level lounge with original pulpit, second vaulted and beamed lounge on 2nd floor, balustraded dining area overlooking the main lounge, quality full fitted kitchen with two Britannia gas ranges.
  • 5 bath / shower rooms. Ground floor bathroom, plus shower ensuite. First floor bathroom with extra shower cubicle, plus shower ensuite. Second floor - three ensuite shower rooms. Seven showers in total. All bedrooms have a vanity basin except the upstairs twin bedroom.
  • The property offers full access to three ground floor bedrooms and bathroom for less mobile guests.

We have just returned from a wonderful Golden Wedding anniversary weekend celebration for my parents staying in the Ebenezer Chapel. The accommodation was great and was absolutely perfect for us as a large party of 22 (and with 3 clergymen in the family, the pulpit proved a great source of amusement!).  We had a couple of meals at The Mill House (Fayre and Square) over the river and they were very helpful and accommodating.  All in all we have enjoyed a very memorable weekend and wanted to thank you for your ideal accommodation.  With many thanks.    Mrs Harrison September 2012.

I would like to just say again what a fantastic time we all had. We have all said it was the best new year we have had in a long long time. The kids found it all so exciting, staying in such a big and exciting place, and that made it for us. They were happy and so were we. We were able to walk along to the park with them, all 20+ of us went for a nice lunch in the pub opposite on New Years Eve. Went for a few drinks next door and the boys walked up to a couple of the pubs further up too. We also used the take away you recommended on New Years Day - which was lovely! Mrs Cartwright December 2011

I am just writing to say we had a wonderful stay at the Ebenezer Chapel. It is far and away the best place we have stayed for a church retreat - exactly what we hoped for. Mr & Mrs Hall January 2012

We have just spent New Year 2012 at the Ebenezer Chapel with a group of 10 adults and 12 children all under 6, and I can honestly say that it was ideal.  There are so many bedrooms and space with a second lounge for the children it was brilliant.  There was also a massive dining table that seats everyone.  We used 2 pubs; the boys went next door to the King William a real ale type pub, and the families went to the Mill House both excellent.  If you're looking for a relaxed family place for a holiday look no further.

I just wanted to say that we had a lovely time at the Ebenezer Chapel.  it is a really great venue for a big family, and we found it well organised and had everything that we could need.  If anyone were to ask me if I knew of a place that could accommodate a good number I would certainly reccomend it!

Mrs Barchard. November 2013

I stayed here with around 10 friends back in October, we were visiting Alton Towers and neede a large place to stay.  Ebenezer Chapel was perfect for us, it gave us all so much space, we didn't feel like we were treading on each other's toes. The dining area was large enough to fit a lot of people and the kitchen was well equipped for large groups and there was more than enough sofas for everyone to sit together.  The sauna was an extra bonus for us! The only downside was the on road parking, no allocated parking for all our cars but we never failed to park right outside so it didn't matter too much.

If you need somewhere for large groups then this is perfect.  Lots of room for socialising but enough rooms that you can get away if needed!  There is an extra smaller sitting roomupstairsalsi also if needed.  It is just by the river which is lovely and there is a pub just up the road which was great too.

We had a fantastic time and everyone was impressed with the chapel.  (And there is already talk of a repeat visit when we can find an excuse to get together)  Mr Hassall April 2015

We had a great time Thank You -the chapel is the perfect place for a large party and it was great exploring all the different rooms when we arrived (although a challenge working out who was going to sleep where!).  Just a pity we couldn't use the garden due to the weather!    Mrs Middleton  July 2016.

We had the most wonderful weekend and birthday celebrations at Ebenezer Chapel and found the property amazing.  The whole family were taken by it.  The facilities were  excellent and we felt that all out needs were catered
for. An excellent choice of venue.  We wouldn't hesitate to use Derbyshire holidays again and have already recommended this property to others.  Mrs Gould August 2016.

Our group of 12 spent 4 nights in this unusual and spacious accommodation. The rooms and facilities were generally of a high standard with towels and bed linen provided and many of the bedrooms have en suite facilities. The kitchen was well equipped. There is a small garden area with brick barbecues and plenty of chairs. The pub next door is excellent, there is a supermarket 5 minutes drive away and there are lovely walks and a river close by.plus many other attractions within easy driving distance. Everyone in the group enjoyed themselves and would recommend it to others.  Mrs Lawson May 2017.
